The figure of the rooster of Barcelos comes from the interesting popular legend that transports Barcelos to medieval times, and which tells the story of a pilgrim on his way to Santiago de Compostela, who was miraculously saved from the gallows, thanks to Santiago, when a rooster crowed made itself heard in a surprising way.
